My thoughtful approach to Early Years and Primary learning

At Jo's Inclusive Early Years and Primary Teaching, I believe every child deserves a nurturing start. Discover how my personalised, inclusive methods create a joyful and effective learning experience right at home.

My special teaching approach

My teaching approach is warm, calm and highly child-centred. I take time to really get to know each child and their family, so I can follow their interests, use clear, simple language and break learning down into small, achievable steps. With 6 years’ experience in early years and SEND and up-to-date Paediatric First Aid training, I create a predictable, nurturing home-learning environment where all children can feel safe, included and confident to have a go.

Inclusive methods for every child

I have 6 years’ experience working closely with children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities. I start by really understanding each child’s strengths, communication style and sensory needs. I use clear, consistent routines, visual supports and lots of play so children know what to expect and can join in at their own pace. I work in partnership with families and any professionals already involved, adapting activities and expectations so that home learning feels safe, achievable and genuinely inclusive – never one-size-fits-all.

Partnership with parents and carers

I see parents and carers as partners in their child’s learning. Before we begin, I take time to listen carefully to what families know about their child, what is going well and what feels hard at the moment. After each session I share clear, honest feedback in plain language, along with simple ideas that can be used in everyday routines at home. My aim is for parents and carers to feel informed, respected and supported – never judged – so we can work together around what matters most to their child.

Engaging activities for home learning

I use lots of play-based, hands-on activities that can be done with real objects and toys already in the home – things like stories, songs, sensory play, simple games and everyday routines. I follow each child’s interests closely, using their favourite characters, themes or activities to keep them curious and motivated. Sessions are calm and structured, with clear beginnings and endings, so learning feels fun, safe and manageable rather than busy or overwhelming.
